The Challenge

MNArts needed a web presence to showcase Connor’s freelance motion graphics portfolio and gain leads for new clientele. The limitations of platforms like Instagram or Behance were not providing enough flexibility to display his work in the best possible light.

Strategy & Discovery

The project began with a meeting with Connor to review his printed portfolio and discuss ways to present his static and motion work effectively online. Having worked with Connor for years, I was already familiar with his style, making it easier to create something bespoke. We focused on the existing brand he had developed, with a black and white aesthetic, and aimed to create a homepage that highlighted his showreel. Custom JavaScript was used to blur background elements during video playback for distraction-free viewing and to create a glitchy typing effect for the hero title, mimicking his showreel style.

A completely black image, serving as a showcase with no visible objects, text, or distinguishable features.

Web Design

The website included multimedia elements such as the glitchy typing effect for the H1 and background blurring during video playback. Special attention was given to both desktop and mobile views to ensure the site looked its best on any device. The case study template was designed to offer flexibility for showcasing static and motion work, along with areas for descriptions and navigation to other projects. Easy navigation was key, with the site deliberately kept small (homepage, case study parent and child, and contact page) to allow the work to shine. The dark theme of the website helped the bright, colourful visuals of his work stand out without distractions.

Web Development

The website is hosted on Blint’s server and built using Elementor. Custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript were used in various areas of the site to elevate it beyond standard Elementor capabilities. Responsive design and interactive features ensured a consistent, high-quality user experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile, reflecting the level of work Connor produces.

Collaboration was facilitated using Figma to create a flat version of the website first. Regular communication allowed for minor tweaks and adjustments, ensuring the vision was fully achieved.

Final Details

The final outcome was a professional, highly functional website that increased Connor’s client base. He can now upload new case studies himself through the WordPress backend, thanks to custom ACF fields and CPTUI. We continue to add new features to the site regularly, maintaining its relevance and functionality.
